Day 10 - Fairytale Castles and Red Crosses

Today was a really fun, jam-packed day. After eating breakfast in the hotel (where I stole like 10 different kinds of cheeses and an apple to have for lunch) we headed out to meet with Franz Gaag, an international business leader and a European Area 70. He gave us some really good insights into international marketing and made me want to live in foreign country when I’m working. I think it would be a really neat experience – I’d just have to learn a language!

We then went to Chateau Chillon – an absolutely GORGEOUS old medieval castle out on Lake Geneva. I felt like a fairytale princess walking through it. I want to live in a castle!

the castle!

Next we went to the headquarters of the International Committee of the Red Cross for our next business visit. I learned a lot of really interesting things, such as there are 3 sectors of the Red Cross, and the ICRC only deals with armed conflicts. They specialize in aid, bringing lost loved ones together, and teaching armies the rules of war. I also learned that in the Muslim countries, the Red Cross is called the Red Crescent because the cross is considered offensive. Interesting, huh? I definitely think it would be cool to go into non-profit PR, because that way you can make such a difference in the world and give your life greater meaning. I wouldn’t want to necessarily do the Red Cross, but maybe something along the lines of bettering the lives of women around the world. Something like CARE.

After the Red Cross we went back to Lake Geneva and swam around for a bit. I went on a paddle boat and it was seriously the best thing ever. We went under the Jet D’Eau and I got SOAKED. So much fun though.
We then went back to McDonald’s (cuz it’s the cheapest thing here) and got lost for like half an hour trying to find our bus ride home. Quite the adventure. I love Switzerland.
