Day 13 - Emily's Birthday!

Wow, I can't believe this trip is already halfway over! That's so sad to think about. It really has flown by, yet it feels like FOREVER ago that I was in NYC. Crazy.

So today was Emily's 20th birthday! How lucky is she - getting to spend her bday in Florence, Italy? Anyway, we celebrated in style (well, mostly she did, since she looked so cute) by first waiting in line for THREE HOURS to enter the Academia Gallery, where Michaelangelo's David statue is located. It was so worth it though, as that statue is literally one of the greatest pieces of artwork I have ever seen. It was huge too! There are lots of replicas around Florence, but nothing compares to the real thing. I tried to sneak a pic, but the worker lady was intense on cracking down on camera use and had the loudest SHH I've ever heard. So that failed. So you can just look at one on the internet. Or better yet, see it for yourself :)

We then went to lunch where I got some delish pasta with meat sauce, but everyone else got gnocchi so I wished I had gotten that, haha.

I then went to ship my bars of Swiss chocolate home, which was kind of a challenge because the worker lady did not speak one lick of English. It took me a while to get my point across, so I hope the package arrives safely!

After the post office we shopped around San Lorenzo market for a while, where I bought two scarves for 8 euro. Mark bought this ridiculous mini statue of David and made up a rap song about putting David on our shoulders. Kinda dumb, but it's been stuck in my head all day. I'm sure there'll be a vid posted soon.

Delish Italian ice

After shopping, we went to a group dinner for Em's birthday. I got pizza and it was pretty good. Although I do have to say I think I like American deep dish pizza better. The crust is more thick and there's more sauce, even though I like the sauce here better. Just my personal preference. The cheese is absolutely delicious though.

beautiful birthday girl :)

After dinner and bday cake we went to the top of Michelangelo Hill (I can't remember what the exact name is) where you can see an absolutely breathtaking view of all of Florence. We took some pics and then got dance lessons from Tim C. while Alyse chatted up these attractive Italian men, hahaha. All in all a wonderful night ;)
